College Education

Why it matters

The effects of college education ripple out to entire communities.

Students in Zambia enter school at around age seven. While students can receive free education through secondary school, attending school can still be challenging (especially for rural students) due to needs for supplies, difficulty traveling to school, and other responsibilities. At grade seven, students sit for their Certificate of Primary Education. At the end of grade twelve, exam results determine if a student is eligible to attend college, university, or a trade school within Zambia.

Many students in Zambia face significant obstacles to pursuing their educational and career goals, especially after secondary school. For example:

  • Girls often have to quit school around age 13 to financially support their family, collect water and take care of younger siblings.

  • 60% of people in rural Zambia live on less than $1.90 a day, creating an additional burden for parents to afford school fees, supplies, and uniforms and making college education out of reach for most.

  • The majority of students sponsored by Dazzle Africa are first-generation college students and the first to navigate higher education.

The effects of college education ripple out to entire communities.

To sponsor a college student
is to change a life.

College Sponsorship

At Dazzle Africa, we believe that all young people deserve the opportunity to pursue their educational goals. We remove barriers to college by sponsoring the most vulnerable and hard-working students in the region, who have strong academic abilities but do not have the financial resources to pursue their educational goals. Our scholarships primarily support higher education, empowering students to achieve their dreams and support their community. Some of these incredible students have pursued careers in veterinary medicine, wildlife conservation, law, medicine, and more!

Our sponsorship program matches interested sponsors with individual students. Sponsors commit to investing in the duration of a student’s college program. Sponsors provide annual funding that covers tuition, living expenses, and other needs and leadership opportunities that may arise. Ongoing communication with students allows us to share updates with sponsors that include academic reports, letters from the student, and recent photos.

We partner with local organizations including Project Luangwa and Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust to facilitate our sponsorships and provide on-the-ground support to students.

If you are a student seeking college sponsorship, please reach out to sponsorship@projectluangwa.org with questions.
