Women in Wildlife is a female leadership program organized through Zambian Carnivore Programme that equips young women to be effective leaders and independent citizens. Through the program, ZCP pairs women mentors and students to receive personalized training. "Being part of the Women in Wildlife Conservation program through the Zambian Carnivore Programme gave me a voice I never thought I’d have. It allowed me to express my passion for wildlife conservation and protecting biodiversity—something I once believed was reserved for men. For a long time, it felt like only men had the knowledge and authority to speak on conservation. But with the guidance of one mentor, I stand here today, speaking to the young girls who feel uncertain, whose spark might be dimmed. Know this: there is space for you. Challenge yourself, learn, and grow—not just for yourself, but for the world around you. Hard work and determination can unlock opportunities you never imagined. This program taught me that my voice matters, and that every girl has the potential to be a leader. With two years of mentorship, dedication, and support, I’m now on track to complete my undergraduate degree in the U.S. and aim even higher. Every girl can make a difference—your light can shine bright. What many may not realize is that in places like Zambia, the barriers for women in wildlife conservation are not just professional but deeply cultural. Often, young women are not encouraged to pursue careers in science or conservation, and there are fewer role models showing them it’s possible. It’s crucial that we challenge these stereotypes and create opportunities for women to be at the forefront of protecting our planet."
